About This Calculator

The Carpet & Roll Flooring Calculator helps contractors and interior designers estimate broadloom carpet, vinyl sheeting, and roll flooring materials for commercial and residential projects across the UAE and Gulf. For a rectangular room it calculates the number of strips, roll length with pattern-repeat allowance and waste factor, seam length and waste percentage.

Hotel Guestroom in Dubai

An 8 m × 3.8 m guestroom in patterned broadloom from a 4 m roll, with a 0.6 m pattern repeat and 5% waste. The calculator gives a single strip with no seam: 8.82 m of roll, 35.28 m² ordered for a 30.4 m² room (16.1% waste). Repeat per room type and total the lengths for the order.

Hospital Ward in Abu Dhabi

A 20 m × 9 m (180 m²) ward in 2 m sheet vinyl with 8% waste. The calculator gives 5 strips, 108 m of roll (216 m², 20% waste including the part-width fifth strip) and 80 m of seams to be heat-welded for hygiene.

Common roll widths: Broadloom carpet 3.66m (12ft) or 4m; vinyl sheet 2m or 3m; carpet tiles 50×50cm. Hotels typically use 4m broadloom for fewer seams in corridors and guestrooms.

Pattern matching increases waste: Small patterns (under 30cm repeat) add 5-8%; large patterns (over 60cm repeat) add 10-15%. Add another 3-5% for room irregularities and cutting losses.

Best practices: Place seams perpendicular to main windows (light direction hides seams); avoid seams in high-traffic paths and doorways; position seams under furniture where possible. Document seam locations in shop drawings for approval.
