Fairness note. Information about Aconex here is limited to what is publicly available as of 14 October 2026. Oracle and Aconex are trademarks of their respective owners; Arkan is not affiliated with them. Features and pricing may change, so check Oracle's website for current details.
Can you actually replace Aconex on a Saudi project?
Start with the contract. On many large projects, the employer selects a common data environment and requires every party to use it. If that is Aconex, switching is not your decision. The realistic uses of an alternative are your own projects, packages where the employer has not mandated a platform, and the internal records you keep alongside a mandated system. Ask early and get the answer in writing.
What does Aconex publicly offer?
Oracle's public documentation for Aconex lists areas including Documents, Workflows, Field and Cost, along with a mobile app and an API. Aconex is widely used for document control on large projects. Pricing is quote-based. For anything beyond that, such as detailed module capabilities, hosting or support arrangements, rely on Oracle directly rather than on a third party.
What should you compare when you do have a choice?
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Document control and version history | Everyone must work from the current revision |
| Approval workflows | Submittals, RFIs and documents need accountable routing |
| Arabic interface and right-to-left layout | Site, office and client teams work in different languages |
| BOQ-linked payments | Retention, advance recovery and VAT in payment requests |
| Schedule import | Primavera P6 files in XER or XML |
| Ease of onboarding subcontractors | Adoption determines whether the system is used |
| Cost model and contract terms | Quote-based on both sides, so ask for a written quote |

Where does Arkan fit?
Arkan combines document control, approval workflows, a BOQ module, payment requests with retention, advance recovery and VAT, and Primavera P6 schedule import in one platform. It has a full Arabic interface with right-to-left layout and is quoted per customer. The head office is in Dubai. See the side-by-side on our Arkan vs Aconex comparison, which marks any cell we could not verify as not compared.
How do you run a fair pilot?
- Pick one real package, not a demo scenario.
- Load a real folder structure and a few controlled documents.
- Run a submittal and an RFI through approval end to end.
- Ask a subcontractor to use it without training and note where they stall.
- Get written terms for the scale you actually need.
